Airtrain Hotel Display

The Airtrain Hotel Display is a train timetabling application based on the Airtrain Plasma Display. This software is used to display train departure information to the Brisbane Airport and has been designed for use in places of accommodation near train stations.

When the application is started, the user selects a train station between the Gold Coast and Brisbane Airport. The train departures for the selected station are then displayed. After the application starts, there is no further interaction required by the user.

In order to be clear to any traveller, the hotel display software will rotate through various screens of information. The first is the countdown in minutes, to the next departing train from the selected station.

The screen also shows when the train will arrive at the airport which is important for most travellers to the airport.

The upcoming trains screen shows the time to the next 3 departing trains. This screen shows the time in minutes to the departure and the approximate arrival time at the airport for each service. Therefore if the traveller can not make the first departing train, they are aware of upcoming trains.

Another screen in the rotation is a "message" screen which can be used to personalise the display to the hotel or place of accommodation where the display is located. A message screen consists of a title and message body, and the application takes care of picking an appropriate font size based on the length of the message.

Each message can have a start and end, date and time and multiple messages can be queued up using the Hotel Configurator.

The Hotel Configurator is an accompanying piece of software used to enter messages to appear in the rotation or to select the colour scheme or length of time each screen is to be displayed.

The configurator can be used to:

  • Enter public holidays to adopt alternate train schedules
  • Enter messages to appear in the rotation
  • Select a colour scheme for each screen type
  • Enter the length in seconds each screen is to be displayed
  • Select the change effect used to swap between screens
